About

Andrew Iggleden

Andrew is the founder and owner of Kardinya Counselling and the Courageous Relationships blog where he shares insights and stories to help couples find better ways of relating.

After leaving the Royal Australian Navy, Andrew undertook part time studies to achieve a Diploma of Computer Programming and spent the next 15 years in IT designing and developing software. Following his time in the IT business, Andrew decided to go back to study and become a counsellor where he found his real passion lay in marriage counselling.

Andrew spent quite a bit of time researching different therapies or “ways” of helping clients and was drawn to Drs John & Julie Gottman and their Gottman Method Couples Therapy (GMCT). This therapy has come from over 40 years of research as opposed to those therapies that either are developed then researched or have been “adapted” to suit marriage counselling. This is what makes GMCT unique and quite often successful where others are not.

While studying for his Graduate Diploma in Family Therapy & Addictions, Andrew started his formal training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy and has recently completed his level 2 training for this therapy. This latest level has given Andrew an even deeper understanding into the dynamics and intricacies of relationships including those that have issues such as Addictions, PTSD and recent (or ongoing) affairs.

Andrews approach is not to insert himself into the relationship and create a triad where the therapist plays a crucial role as part of the relationship but instead works together with the couple to maintain and strengthen their relationship by giving them confidence and tools to work through the issues at home (where the stresses of day to day life exist) and to continue using the skills into future.

Relationship counselling is Andrews passion and he is committed to not only staying up to date with the latest research and therapies but also helping those couples looking to make their relationship a more fulfilling and loving one.
